Employees are seeking more work/life balance and as a result there is a demand for greater flexibility in terms of hours. However, this casualization is also bad news in relation to emotional security.

뜸 들이다 beat around the bush

A : 저, 음, 있잖아요.
I, um, well, have to go home because, I...uh...

What are you trying to say?

Don't beat around the bush, and just spit it out.

What's the entrance system like for universities in Korea?

Is it hard to get in?

Although universities are accepting more applicants now, at the more prestigious universities, because of the sheer number of applicants, competition to get in is really fierce.

A number of South Korean schools have forbidden disabled students from taking the nation's standardized scholastic aptitude exam this year. The Korean Scholastic Aptitude Test was given as a way to monitor students' progress and ensure that schools were providing students with a quality education. However, several elementary schools have been criticized for denying disabled students from taking the exam.

"The authorities said the test was designed to determine students' scholastic levels and teach them accordingly. So, excluding disabled students is against the purpose of the exam,"a civic group based in Gwangju said.

Parents also complained that eliminating disabled students from the exam was a discriminatory move aimed at raising the schools' national ranking. Some public schools had allowed disabled students to take the exam, but then chose to remove their scores from the school' overall test results.

"Can a school be an educational venue if it excludes disabled students from a test in order to raise its ranking? The educational authorities are encouraging discrimination against the disabled," the parent group said.

Schools that did so claimed that they had acted in their students' best interests and had not broken any laws. Under the current law, each school has the authority to choose whether or not to include the scores of disabled students in their official test score results. Additionally, school administrations said they acted out of concern for their disabled students, who they said may have suffered under the strenuous conditions of the state-wide run exam.

Some schools sent their disabled students on a field trip on exam day, while others gave disabled students regular lessons instead of the test. At one elementary school where disabled students are taught in the same room as non-disabled students, those with disabilities were told to sit quietly while the rest of the class took the nine hour-long exam.
